MEET THE TEAM

Martin Charles was born on the Caribbean island of Grenada and raised on St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. From an early age, he demonstrated a strong passion for art, which led him to pursue a career in graphic design. After meeting his mentor, Leo Carty—a Pratt Institute alumnus—Martin honed his craft under Carty's guidance, ultimately developing a portfolio that earned him a full, four-year scholarship to Pratt Institute in New York City.

In 1983, Martin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Design and quickly launched his professional career as a junior graphic designer at Macmillan Publishing in New York. Over time, he transitioned from a staff position into the world of freelance design, marking the beginning of what would become a lifelong passion as an independent graphic designer. His early clients included prominent companies such as Avon Products, Merrill Lynch, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Macmillan Publishing.

In 1990, Martin made the bold decision to relocate to Los Angeles, where he secured his first film industry job just one week after arriving. He joined Roger Corman's studio in Venice, marking the start of his career in film graphic design. His breakthrough came with the 1993 film CB4, followed by key projects like Devil in a Blue Dress and That Thing You Do. Over the next three decades, Martin contributed design work to more than 90 feature films, including major Hollywood hits such as Ghostbusters (2016), Saving Mr. Banks, 42, Public Enemies, Love and Other Drugs, Miami Vice, Leatherheads, Charlie Wilson's War, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, The Avengers, and Black Adam.

Throughout his career, Martin has collaborated with some of the top directors, producers, production designers, and stars in the industry. His exceptional work led to his distinction as the first graphic designer invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

In 2021, after designing graphics for Black Adam, Martin expanded his professional horizons by founding Sagaboy Productions and Sagaboy Studios. The companies bridge the gap between graphic design and manufacturing, working with designers to bring their creative visions to life across a range of mediums—from postage stamps to 40-foot billboards. With state-of-the-art printing technology, Sagaboy Studios also specializes in creating custom wall and floor coverings.

With over 35 years of experience in graphic design, Martin's work continues to be defined by its creative vision, technical expertise, and personal touch—qualities that he brings to every project at Sagaboy Productions and Studios.
